Okay...I restored my system and got my Outlook Express back. And now, without warning, all my bookmarks disappeared. I seem to recall that there's a way to restore them, but I'm damned if I can remember *how*.....

And oh, Firefox has somehow uninstalled all the search engines.

I reinstalled Firefox, and my bookmarks and my search engines came back. I have no idea what happened, but it's all good.

Got home from work and found that a temp agency had seen my resume on Monster.com and wanted to contact me about resuming work for them. I last worked for this place four years ago, for about three weeks, and it was not a pleasant experience; the only job they got me was part-time, filling in for someone's vacation, and after it ended on what I had thought was a good note, the temp coordinator called me and lectured me on unspecified things I'd done wrong. I was supposed to come in for a "more thorough look at how you are supposed to represent us" when I was hired somewhere else.

Given all this, I have no idea why they wanted to talk to me again; has the person who didn't like me left? I'm seriously puzzled, since if I was a poor enough employee that they reprimanded me I can't see any reason why they'd want me back. So I called them up and left a message stating that I was not interested in working with them based on the above, and requested that they take my name out of their database.

I'm still scratching my head over this one.

*********

Oddly enough, I got *another* message from a temp service, this one a legal temp agency based in Boston, two hours away. I left a polite message stating that I was not interested in legal work because I'd rather crawl through ground glass on my hands and knees than work for another lawyer, plus I lived well outside their area and was not planning to relocate. It's not quite as insane as the time a lawyer in Austerlitz, New York, called me for an interview, but it's still a puzzlement.
