So much for those "innate differences" between male and female brains. I was particularly bewildered by the use of forty year old research to support the idea of innate sex differences; there's been plenty of on-point research since then, so why use such old articles, unless it's to support a pre-existing theory?

One reason I found this article so instructive was that the "women are naturally empathic, men are naturally good at math" stereotype doesn't square with my experience. Unlike the authors of many of these articles, I spent four years living in a single-sex environment, and what I saw was that women and men are a lot closer in behavior, intelligence, and talent than most people (including scientists) are willing to admit.

My brand new Kenmore Energy Star refrigerator will be delivered on Wednesday. It's white (to match the stove), has plenty of room, and no icemaker so there's more room in the freezer. Since I got it on sale, I'll get a rebate on the delivery and removal of the old unit, so basically the only thing I'm paying for is the actual refrigerator. The only snag was that I initially ordered a unit that was too high for the space I have, so I had to reorder the slightly smaller unit...but it's also Energy Star, only a couple of inches shorter. This is acceptable since I really don't feel like tearing out a cabinet this week. *rolls eyes*

I also purchased a cooler so Roomie will have a place to put perishables while the new fridge reaches the correct temperature, and a new trash can with a sturdy lid to keep the goddamn racoons neighborhood fauna from scattering trash all over the driveway. I tested the trash can by dragging it all over K-Mart with the new cooler inside it, and it works just fine, thank you very much. :)

In non-practical purchases, I picked up a copy of Duffy's CD Rockferry, which sounds like a cross between Petula Clark, Shirley Bassey, and Motown (all of which I love), and The Monster of Florence, a true crime tale by Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi about a truly horrendous serial killer who preyed on young lovers in the Tuscan hills. I also tried the new Red Robin at Holyoke Crossing and was less than impressed, but am willing to give it another try at some point since their specialty is supposedly burgers and I had a chicken wrap. ;)

Finally - saw the last set of the Wimbledon final. Holy - !
