Obligatory TSA security post
Nov. 21st, 2010 09:31 amUnlike most Americans, I've gone through a security scanner, at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam.
It felt like a puff of air, took a couple of seconds, and did not entail me removing my shoes, coat, keys, etc.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Even though it means some bored security worker got to see a couple of seconds of my naked, out of shape, middle aged flesh.
And no, I am not worried about radiation, not unless and until someone can point me to a peer reviewed study from Europe where they've had these machines for several years showing an increased risk of cancer, not an opinion letter from four individual doctors. I am much, much, much more concerned about cell phones since there is at least one peer reviewed study that excessive use causes acoustic neuroma and glioblastoma tumors.
NOTE: I am not talking about the pat downs, which I agree are invasive and ridiculous. But the hysteria about the scanners being the next best thing to pornography is another matter entirely.
YMMV.
