Either at home, packing for Pennsic, or over at a non-fannish friend's house. This may be complete and utter proof of my insanity, but right now the vibes I am getting from the whole last Potter book hysteria feel off to me. IF I decide to read the book, it will be when I feel like it, not when author and publisher created hype say I should.

Your mileage may vary. Does not apply in all states. Please use safety belts and obey speed laws. Do not smoke in elevators. 54-40 or Fight. Tippecanoe and Tyler too. Bring back the Wilmot Proviso. AAANNNTTTHONY!!!!!!!!!

Well, yes...but speaking as somebody who already read what I believe to be the real book, all they're asking is that people don't participate in spreading the leaked copies, which isn't unreasonable (even though I ignored that wish by reading).

Now...if they were saying "You must all purchase and read the book on the first day!" then I'd agree: that's just not on. But do you really think there's something weird about JKR wanting folks to wait until the book is published legally to read it? Or...am I just misunderstanding what you're saying?

You have more willpower (and common sense) than I do.

I'll be like all the other sheeple, waiting at Borders at midnight. Then, of course, staying up all night to read, which is pretty stupid, considering what I've heard about the thing plus the fact that we're doing our Baronial Pennsic pack out tomorrow. (Going to the storage unit, loading the trailer, etc.)

We each must do what feels right. As for me, I haven't been participating in nor reading any speculations in the past few weeks. I read one or two people's speculations, none it made any sense to me, and I don't have time to re-read the previous book -- too busy!

Last time we went to the party we got to hang out with friends, talk about whatever (_NOT_ HP), check out other books in the store, run into people we hadn't seen in a few years, and get some silly kid stuff (I have a cheap pair of 'glasses' from there). The stores won't be making any money off this book, so they're hoping people will buy other books while they're at the store.

And, likely we will, being book people. There's a magazine issue I want to look for anyway, and a few books I've had it in mind to look for, so I expect I'll make up a list to bring with me.

Enjoy your evening!

Not quite - I don't believe in spoiling it for the unwilling. AT the same time, the hysteria this week about reviews and leaked copies and "maintaining the magic" and everything is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure I'll read it at some point, but right now is not it.

All of the above is true, and I hope you have a good time. It's simply not the right thing for me this year. I've done it twice. That's enough.

Besides, I've already cancelled my preorder....:D

Oh, I'm sure I'll be up late waiting for the reaction from Sectus. However, all the hype and screaming and everything else this week, coupled with what I've heard from you and a couple of other people, have convinced me that it's best for me personally to stay home.

And I still have a !#$@!#$@!$! of stuff to do for Pennsic and only two weeks in which to do it....

I hope I didn't totally put you off it - I'm not sure if any of the things I heard were actually true (though I suspect they are).

As to Pennsic, no kidding. I had a great time in New Orleans, but it has set me back severely on my prep. I've got to finish a couple of pieces of garb for myself, make some stuff for my husband, an entire wardrobe for my daughter and find time to clean the house as we'll have to have people coming in to take care of the dogs while we're gone.

Wasn't you. Several other people have confirmed it and quoted the passages in question, and it's been confirmed that the leaked copy and the spoilers are true.

I have far better ways to spend my money.

True, you've been to two of them. We only went to the last one. Ran into Rolf and Rennata and their kids there. Tracy will be there tonight, just to hang out -- her book's coming in the mail (got a good price on it).

You've been running pretty ragged this summer though, and could probably use a quieter night!

This is very true as well. Why do you think I took a couple of extra days off this week prior to Pennsic? :D

Be a rebel and read the Leake Version! it's free!

That's what I did, not because I'm a rebel, but because I have a awful lot of things to do from saturday till the end of july. that was the best time for me!

I loved it, by the way (except the epilogue). Even if they were things I did not want to happen, it still made my blood race, and sucked me in.

Have a nice time with it, whenever you feel it!
