First and foremost, I would beg my f-list's indulgence and ask for prayers/thoughts/good wishes for two friends, SC and MR, who are going through very, very rough times right now. If I could do more, I would, since you both deserve much better than fate has handed you in the last couple of weeks.

Second, the "ten things I'd say to ten random people on my f-list if I could" meme:

1. Your good sense and skillful parenting leave me in awe.

2. Things are nowhere near as bad as you think they are. Really.

3. I wish I'd made the decision you're making when I was first in a similar situation. It hurts, yes, but it's far wiser than sticking in an untenable situation.

4. I admire your good heart and loyalty, and wish I had a tenth of your work ethic.

5. You are doing what I wish I could do, and are doing so with grace and style.

6. You are one of the most brilliant and talented people I've ever met, and you're living your life the way you want to. Bravo!

7. Your perseverance in the face of pain and illness puts my disability in perspective.

8. I wish I had a fraction of your overall talent for everything, from painting to dancing to cooking to writing.

9. You're a walking encyclopedia, and thank God for it.

10. Watching you evolve is a constant joy.

Finally, my weekend at [livejournal.com profile] tena542's wedding...

This was one of the simplest, most moving, most heartfelt commitments of one human being to another I have ever witnessed. Tena and Alan have been together long enough that many people have assumed they already *were* married, and their love and devotion were obvious.

Details may be superfluous, but a few at random -

The bride and groom both wore blue, her in a sapphire blue dress and a lovely hand-painted silk jacket, him in a navy blue blazer. The wedding was at an old coaching inn that has seen many weddings before. The children all behaved well. We had more than enough food, from hand-made chocolates to homemade cake to Tena's cranberry ketchup as the favors. The conversation was excellent, even with interruptions for the Red Sox' walloping of the Indians. The guests were all there because they mean something to the couple, and it showed. The weather was flawless.

I am happy beyond measure for them, and wish them nothing but peace, prosperity, and many, many, many years together.

One final note: if you're ever in the vicinity of Boscawen/Penacook/Concord, New Hampshire, you can't go wrong with a reservation at the Daniel Webster Motor Lodge. This delightful little motel was constructed from a 1940's motor court and is quite simply one of the most comfortable, homey, *safe* places I've ever stayed. The rooms are small but spotless, the management is truly "mom and pop" (I spoke with the mom, who answered the phone herself when I made my reservation Friday night), the beds are clean and comfortable, and they have tea, coffee, and a continental breakfast of muffins and butter waiting for you in the refrigerator in the room. I slept better there than I did in the Lowell Doubletree last weekend.
