How do I back up my files to a CD? Every time I try, I get a box saying that "11-29-07.bkf" is not a valid name. What IS a valid name, and what am I doing wrong?????

I have no idea - I don't know why the CD cares what the name is.

*eyes it*

Oh, um. I'm really frustrated - I had a subscription to Piecework, and can only lay my hands, right now, on 4 of the issues. I expect to turn up the rest in the next few weeks; is that too long?

I'm just pleased that the ones you want will be going to a good home!

The name may not be the actual problem; there may be an incompatability between your machine and the CD-burning program(s) on it. For instance, when I upgraded from Windows Media Player 6 to 7, I started getting that error; it turns out I couldn't burn CDs if WMP 7 was on my ThinkPad, even though I wasn't using WMP for the actual copying (when tech support uninstalled it and rolled back to the earlier version, I was able to copy files to CD again). (I became really jittery when I was auto-upgraded to WMP 11 earlier this month, but the Programmers That Be seem to have fixed whatever was wrong earlier.)

Anyway, long story short, if you've successfully created CD backups on your machine before, you might consider reversing any recent software upgrades/installations and seeing if that's what's causing the problem. Beyond that, someone more technically conversant than I will have to weigh in. Good luck!

It's because you have a period in your name for the CD. Get rid of the period and it should work fine.
