A Golden Day is what I call a day when everything goes perfectly. The sun shines without baking, the air is clean enough that one actually enjoys breathing, and things simply fall into place.

Today I had a Golden Day.

It started when I woke about an hour later than normal, after a refreshing and dreamless sleep (my dreams have been vivid and occasionally disturbing lately, so this was good). I pottered about over breakfast, took my time bathing, and then had a good phone call with the financial adviser I'm talking to about setting up an investment account.

By 11:20 I was on my way to the drugstore for stamps, and by 11:25 I had paid off my last remaining credit card and tax bill, plus all the other bills for the month. Except for my home equity line and the car loan on Sapphy, I have zero debts for the first time in years...and it's a good, good feeling that I refuse to take for granted.

So. I then drove to Hartford for an afternoon at the Wadsworth Atheneum and its superb art and textile library. For one split second I thought I'd taken the wrong turn and was going to do my usual "Ellid gets really lost and makes an idiot of herself asking for directions" routine, but no! Not only was at the Atheneum, I got on-street parking directly across from the front door!

After I crowed a little about that, I trotted into the museum and went straight for their beautiful old library. There I found a lot of excellent information on cloths of honor, panel paintings, and old textiles, and had a great talk with one of the librarians about the museum itself. Later I tested my new camera in the Medieval and Renaissance section, and found that it works just fine.

Best of all, I found out that their current textile exhibit, Making a Splash, was curated by an old friend of mine from the Quilt History List! The exhibit is absolutely delightful, and it was lovely to see Lynne's research in action.

To cap it all, I drove less than a block and found myself on exactly the road back to the highway that I needed (only folk who've been to Hartford understand what this means ;) ), and was home in less than an hour.

All this, and a gloriously clear, sunny day - yes. It was Golden in every way. Makes me glad to be alive.

Congrats on your Golden Day!

As well you shouldn't! Speaking as one still nibbling at her debt, I can certainly imagine how wonderful that must feel.

It sounds wonderful. Congrats!

(If you are ever in Hartford again, please shoot me an email in advance if you would like to do coffee or lunch. I work in downtown. Two blocks from the Athaneum. :D )

It's like the weight of the world is off my shoulders. Now all I have to do is go on a very strict Pennsic budget...:)

I was shocked at how easy it was to find my way to and from the Atheneum. I was really expecting to end up driving around and around and around the rotary near the Statehouse, the way I did the last time I was downtown.

yay for golden days! I had one yesterday. :)
Also woot for navigating Hartford... one of my least favorite cities.. I'm not a city fan in general, but I've only seen one set up more confusing than Hartford, and that's Charlotte, NC..
Here's to you and more golden days!!
