Let's see...
I'm giving notice as of the 29th of August, and that solely because I could not live with myself if I didn't have a chance to train someone as a counter against the utter disaster that will occur if the office manager has to do this unaided (the best word I can think of to describe the situation when I got back was "clusterf--k," and no, I am not exaggerating. It really was that bad).
The clinic director knows; she thinks I'm doing the right thing, and told me that she's not surprised, given how things have deteriorated. She doesn't like the way the billing manager handles problems, is rapidly getting fed up with the idiot office manager, and told me that she doesn't see things improving at all, either short or long term. She's sad to see me go but thinks I'm doing the right thing, and said she'd gladly serve as a reference.
So. As of the end of the month, Dobby is free. I'm starting to send out resumes and set up interviews, and once I'm free *to* interview instead of having to lie about where I'm going and what I'm going, I hope things will go more easily. *crosses fingers*
*********
In house news, the furniture will be moved out and into storage on Friday afternoon, which means I have to spend the next couple of nights packing books and fragile items and moving them into the basement or my bedroom. A small table and couple of folding chairs are staying in the house so we'll have a place to sit and eat, but everything else is being moved or stored.
*gulp*

Date: 2008-08-12 01:57 am (UTC)From:It seems odd to me, but it sounds from what you say like the clinic director is not the one who hires the office manager and billing manager? One hopes that if she was, the situation would not have gotten this bad in the first place.
Perhaps the roomie senses that change occurring in you is not necessarily going to make her situation easier....

Date: 2008-08-12 02:10 am (UTC)From:The billing department is completely separate, and the billing manager is theoretically on the same level as the clinic directors. There is no overlap when it comes to supervision or responsibility, which has led to a quiet but intense turf war for the last year or so between billing and the clinic. My position was moved from the clinic to the billing department last spring despite me having little or nothing to do with billing, which means that I now answer to the billing director and her immediate underling, the office manager. The clinic director has no authority over me or anyone else in billing, which is why we're able to discuss things as friends.
I'll be giving my formal notice tomorrow to HR, the office manager, and the billing manager. It will be in the form of a short letter and will not go into any details. They won't be happy about it, but it's really not their decision, fortunately.
And oh yes. I *will* have my vacation paid for because it's not inside my notice period. I'll also get paid for my 37 hours of unused vacation time. So it's all, if not good, at least decent.
