Question #1 goes down in flames, 69-31%!!!!!!!

*deep breath*

In less dramatic news, Question #2 (decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana) seems on its way to passage, as does Question #3 (bans dog racing). I'm pleased about these, but I'm *thrilled* that the people of Massachusetts saw through the nasty, greedy, selfish rhetoric and voted to keep the income tax rather than gut state services.

Oh, that's great news! "Lower taxes" seems to get this knee-jerk reaction so much of the time, with people not stopping to think about the fact that you know, taxes pay for a lot of things they need and want. I'm delighted that the majority in MA are thinking!

This law would have meant *40% cuts* in state revenues. Yes, there's waste in government, but not that much.

Well, I for one will be glad to see #2 pass, but that's not exactly a surprise. :)

My feeling is that there NEEDS to be a little waste in government... a little "fat." It's like grease on an axle, makes things work more smoothly, and means adjustments can be made on the fly as needed.

Oh! Yay for banning dog racing! So awful what they do to the poor puppies...

Like any other sport, there are bad apples (whether breeders, owners or trainers), and there are good ones. I'm all in favor of cracking down on abuses--but whether it's necessary to ban racing to do so in another matter :-)

Yay all over!

As a resident of a neighboring state, I've refrained from comments on this one. As a greyhound foster parent, I'm seriously concerned about the flood of dogs that will now land on the rescue network. This is going to mean a LOT of work and expense for mostly all-volunteer organizations. After the Plainfield CT track closed some years back, our group alone took in 40 dogs, all in one shot. Those of you who voted to close down the tracks, please also consider donating time, money and/or other resources to your local greyhound rescue.
I foster through the Concord NH chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. Our group takes in dogs from all over New England, and places them in homes in NH, VT and ME.

Please also consider adopting or fostering. These are wonderful dogs who deserve a long and happy life.

Ditto :-(

Ditto again--every time a track closes, greyhound adoption groups get stretched to the max.

Please also consider adopting or fostering.

We already have two (in a NYC shotgun house), so we're full, but...

This? I couldn't agree more :-D

I sympathize. Part of the reason we have only one of our own is so we can have room to foster. It's also the reason I haven't flunked Fostering 101 - I know if I adopt a foster, we won't have room to foster any more. I'm trying to convince my next door neighbor to adopt our current foster....

If I didn't have such an overscheduled life I'd take one, but right now isn't the time :( When I'm done with school and know where I'm going to be, physically and emotionally, then I will definitely consider it since greyhounds are about the only dogs I think I could live with at this point....
