Highlights of my Epic Return Journey:

- Six hours in the Kalamazoo International Airport, a place with two gates, one tiny security checkpoint, a locally owned gift shop/restaurant/bookstore where they make their own yummy pulled pork, chili, and soups. They also have a shoeshine stand, and a one room office populated by two members of the sheriff's department to supplement the TSA workers. Charming little place.

- Breakfast was two mini-muffins and two pieces of fruit filched from the Sunday breakfast buffet, plus Vitamin Water and a square of leftover Godiva chocolate. It served pretty well until the pulled pork at the airport.

- Cincinnati's airport is MUCH bigger than one would think.

- Ran into a fellow Smithie, class of 2008, who thinks Carol Christ and her budget cuts are every bit as screwy as I do. *beams*

- The Triple Felinoid evidently spent much of the weekend moping, especially Diamond. Roomie reported that the little one barely left my bedroom, poor thing. Siren, OTOH, sunned herself in the bedroom window and lived as large as a ten pound cat can live.

- Having Ruby Red the laptop along made life MUCH easier.

- Books are arriving at the end of the week. *phew*

- Death of a Dude and And Be a Villain hold up very, very well. Then again, passages like "...Hi-Spot had never so much as made someone belch, let alone utter a shrill cry, claw at the air, go into convulsions, and die" will always make me giggle, especially when delivered by Archie Goodwin.

I'm tired and am going to bed early, but I mustered the energy to attend the town Planning Board meeting tonight. They're debating putting in a Stop 'n Shop about 100 feet from a residential neighborhood, and I was there to voice my objections on the grounds a) Easthampton doesn't need a 37,000 square foot grocery, especially so close to town, b) traffic is lousy enough already, and c) we need to develop local resources, not yet another damn cookie cutter identical strip mall development that looks exactly like every other damn cookie cutter identical strip mall development in the United States. I got applause when I spoke, and I think I volunteered for a prospective mayoral candidate, but at least most of the Planning Board sounds pretty skeptical.

We shall see!
