Terrifying.\

UPDATE:

Here's the good but poorly educated pastor's church web page. Note that under his biography it turns out that he was sent to Wheaton College by none other than Chuck Colson, the whited sepulchre who became born-again after Watergate and has blithely fused religion and ultra-conservative politics ever since:

The Father's House Church in Lena

I was saying to my SO today, how about a totally radical world political reorganization? Move everyone presently there out of Africa, and give the continent over to all those who want religion to run their government. The Muslims, Christians, anyone who thinks theocracy is the way to go. Then they can fight it out over how to work such a structure, and who gets which piece of the continent, and those of us who are sane can get on with things in the rest of the world.

(Obviously anyone religious who does NOT think they have the right to have their religious views affect the government and thus those who do not share those views, would not be sent to Africa...)

Excellent comments, though.

Wow! This guy totally misses the whole point about our Founding Parents (and their ancestors) fleeing Europe to escape religious persecution. The colonies were a haven to non-mainstream religions. People came here so they could worship in peace. Governments were happy to let them come here because it got undesirable rabble rousers with their radical ideas (which were threatening in oh so many ways) out of their hair and away from the masses.

The gentleman who wrote the article is also forgetting (never understood) that our Founding Parents weren't Born Agains (When did Xtians start getting Born Again?) and would have probably thought those that were, were kind of whacked but because they supported religious freedom they would've kept their mouths shut unless harassed.

There's a crazy irony in the article totally born of the author Not Getting It.

Brrr. He seems a little confused about the meaning of 'Judaeo-Christian' as well. A little too much emphasis on the status of the first reform rabbi, I suspect.

Some of the comments are much better (more well reasoned, more coherent, less militant) than the 'article'.

Hrumph. I guess I can understand him leaving out all the pagan religions -- common enough, even if WRONG since before the founding of our country -- but how about the Jewish and Muslim religions? ??? For that matter, how can he even presume to speak for all Christians? Idiot.

What kind of paper is this Journal/Standard?

Some good remarks in the comments though.

You're right! I don't usually read the comments on newspaper articles because often they aren't well thought out or are highly inflammatory. These were enlightening, well-written, rebuttals to obvious tripe. I wish more people wrote responses like that.

Well. That's terrifying, although the comments make me feel a bit better. I really must review that information on emigrating to Canada...
