From the article: Politifact.com, The St. Petersburg Times’s truth-squadding team, has also looked into statements of Ms. McCaughey, including this one: “Congress would make it mandatory — absolutely require — that every five years people in Medicare have a required counseling session that will tell them how to end their life sooner.”
Un-freaking-believable. Look, I have certain reservations about a UK style national health system, and I'm not totally sold parts of the current reform proposals, but this kind of fearmongering, lying BS is just despicable.
And totally unrealistic - senior citizens make up one of the most powerful and vocal voting blocs out there - no politician with a brain would EVER propose anything like that. Please. And the idea that we can keep on with the status quo is a denial of reality. We have to do something, and though I didn't vote for him, I applaud President Obama for being willing to take this on and stick to his guns.
