I woke up this morning with my lashes starting to crust and my eyes itching. I checked the mirror and yes! It's true!

I have conjunctivitis! And my doctor isn't open until Monday! Hooray!

*head desk*

Oooh, that's terrible! *hugs you* My mother-in-law passed on to me the Family Wisdom, to wash the eyes out with green tea. It seems to work on my kids... if you have any, it might help until Monday? *sends sympathy*

Maybe a boric acid eyewash from the drug store? Also, hot packing with a wet washcloth can help kill the nasties.

Eeep! Is there an urgent care center near you?

Have you ever had it before? If so, try calling whoever is on call at your doctor's offices and see if you can convince them that's what it is and you know what you're talking about, and have them call in a prescription for you without seeing you. (If necessary, promise that you'll see your doc asap on Monday, but emphasize that you don't want to delay treatment because it's *your eyes*.) I managed to do this a few years ago when I got it for the second time in as many months.

FWIW - The standard treatment is an antibiotic ointment that's so inexpensive it won't even reach the price of many prescription copays. Plus, it's not like it's a drug you can really abuse.

The quick clinics in the stores/Walgreens/whatever can diagnose and prescribe meds for that, it's what I did when I got it.

Ouch! In a pinch, hot/warm saltwater eyebaths (separate bath or fresh piece of cotton wool for each eye) will help some.

Dampen regular tea bags with warm water and set them on your eyes.

the antibiotic ointment (eye drops) that I bought at the drugstore were incredibly helpful when I got my eye infection just before Azkatraz. It cleared up within two days. The pharmacist I talked to (and my hairstylist who has had 5 kids) recommended the antibiotic drops first, and if didn't clear or get better within 24 hours go see a dr. then. (no prescription was necessary)

Saw this and your later post. I'm glad you got something for it. *hugs*
