mizpagan, harpnfiddle, and sorciere_de_neige via a route through such booming metropoloi as Great Barrington, Stockbridge, Salisbury, and Canaan. Made good time, took a couple of excellent classes, had a fine dinner at Four Brothers Pizza in Amenia, New York. We got back on the road around 7:30, and despite winds and rain, made excellent time through the northwestern hills back to the Mass Pike.
And ran into the Mother of All Snowstorms.
Seriously. We went from slush straight into a howling gale, blowing snow, and a completely unplowed Turnpike. I have lived in fair Massachusetts for over thirty years and I have NEVER seen the Pike that bad - I kept driving over the rumble strip because the highway lines were invisible. I had to keep downshifting into third to stay on the road, and much to my horror, the ABS warning light went on and stayed on.*
We got back to Una's house about half an hour later than I planned, and never in my life have I been so relieved to turn off the ignition. And of course I walk in the door and Siren starts yowling for her dinner...
*I didn't tell anyone because I didn't want to panic my passengers. Fortunately the light went off and stayed off after I restarted Sapphy in Una's driveway so it looks like all is well.
