Went up to Ashfield today for the celebration of the life of William,
fitzw's father. It was everything such an event should be: hundreds of friends and family sharing memories, food, and fellowship. I saw people weep (and started crying myself once or twice, even though I didn't know him well), heard funny stories, and saw pictures of him as he went from newlywed to father to patriarch.
One of the best was from last summer. See the cupola at the top of the enormous, multi-level, historic landmark barn? There was a picture of William, 84 years old and not in great health, standing on the roof, several stories up, painting the cupola. The picture didn't show

He was a good man, and Ashfield was enriched by his life. I wish I'd known him better.
