Atheist moral of the story: don't coat your lightning rods in flammable materials.

Theist moral of the story: don't make giant tacky idols. God has better taste than you.

Pagan moral of the story: Go, Thor!

Oh crap, it was styrofoam?

I heard about it getting struck by lightning, but didn't realize it was made of so many non-biodegradable materials (I thought it was made of cement or stone). Gack, that's going to be an ugly mess to clean up.

It was wood and styrofoam over a metal armature, coated with mesh and fiberglass resin.

There's evidently a Facebook community begging the congregation to give the money to the poor instead of rebuilding that monstrosity.

Yes to all three, especially #3.

Evidently it's a steel armature covered with styroform, which was then covered with a fiberglass shell. Pure plastic, and it probably smelled AWFUL when it burned.

Reminds me of the Summer in the Annapolis Valley where there were over a dozen churches struck by lightning. All Baptist. All the other churches were left alone.

I found it odd that they didn't see this as a sign from God.
