DOMA struck down by federal court

Judge Joseph Tauro, a Nixon appointee, struck down the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional today.

Expect this one to make it to the Supreme Court very, very quickly.

Unless, by some miracle, Obama decides not to appeal the ruling.

I was thinking the same thing, but I think the Justice Department is required to appeal the ruling, since DOMA is currently the law of the land. Now, if they should happen to put a couple of pre-law-student interns in charge of the appeal, that's another matter....

The case, and therefore the decision, only applies to the Federal government not recognizing state-sanctioned marriages, rather than what to me is much more clearly un-Constitutional, states not recognizing one another's marriages (based on the "full faith and credit" clause). But I guess "states' rights" is a better political rallying cry than "full faith and credit".
