I was at my desk, reconciling some receipts, when I got a phone call. It was Roomie, and our conversation went something like this:

ME: Good afternoon, [COMPANY].

ROOMIE: Ellid?

ME: Hey. What's up?

ROOMIE: Are your car keys on a Steelcase keychain?

ME: Where were they?

ROOMIE: In a snowbank by the front door. The one that melted.

ME: Are you serious?

ROOMIE: They're a little rusty but they're inside.

ME: OMGWTFPOLARBEARS!!!!!!!

As far as we can tell, the keys fell out of my pocket into fresh snow, and sank so deep that they didn't emerge for nine full days. That's about a foot of snow, God help us all, and I'm just glad the remote starter for Sapphy didn't short out.

I am so ready for this winter to be over.

Also - Roomie, who is Catholic, suggested that I say a prayer to St. Jude, patron of lost causes (or possibly St. Anthony of Padua). I did, and keys are now back...nine days later even though I didn't say a novena (nor could I, since I haven't the slightest idea how).

So...as weird as it sounds, thanks, St. Jude and/or St. Anthony. You rock.

About that novena: It's a prayer or devotion recited for nine days in succession.

So the keys reappearing after nine days is just about right.

I would have thought Anthony of Padua was a more obvious saint to try, but either way, well done Jude.

I believe St. Anthony is the patron saint of lost things. But St. Jude is good, too. ^_^.

St. Jude is the patron of hopeless causes so he likely applies....

She may well have mentioned both of them. Either way, the keys came back nine days after going missing...:)
