Stopped by a used bookstore in Easthampton that is having a huge "everything is half price because I want to sell the business and need to reduce inventory" sale. Picked up some great stuff (an omnibus edition of three EM Forster novels, some Marion Zimmer Bradley I'd read to death, and a really cool book about the Vinland map) plus some really inexpensive copies of supernatural urban thrillers that had been recommended to me.
I started one yesterday. I'm not naming names, but I realized two things as I read it:
- I'd already checked out the first book in the series several years ago and been less than impressed.
- This impression was confirmed by the current book.
I don't think I'm going to finish it. "Pedestrian" does not begin to describe the prose, characters, or plot. The only thing it has is some interesting werewolves that shuck their clothes at the slightest provocation, but it's not enough to keep me reading.
*sigh*
Maybe the next series will be better....
