I do not rejoice in any man's death

But I will not mourn for Osama bin Laden. He was a theocrat whose eventual goal was establishment of a fundamentalist Wahhabi-style caliphate throughout the Middle East, and he was responsible for the deaths of thousands in many countries who never even knew his name.

Let this be the beginning of the end for his organization, and for the "war on terror." Enough people on both sides have been lost.

My mother and I were just talking about this, as we both have facebook friends gloating over his death. No death should be celebrated, but I am glad that no one else will lose their lives looking for him, or due to his direct or indirect actions.

I agree. I've been trying to put my finger on what my feelings are and why they are no where near the elation that so many people seem to be feeling.

Mostly, I'm cautiously relieved and tentatively hopefully but that's tempered by the lives lost all around. I can't be gleeful when there's been so much death.

And it makes me sick how the news keeps showing statements from family members of the 9/11 deaths. It's just so...exploitive, like a kind of prostitution of these people's tragedy. I'm not saying the family members are prostituting themselves. They are fully entitled to their emotions and reactions. But for the media to be feeding off their tragedy -- what is that? Not prostitution. Pornography? Something that just really makes me sick to my stomach.
