Went to Readercon last weekend and had a great time. Among the highlights:
- Saw Walter and got to hear an excerpt from new writing.
- Attended several excellent, serious panels. Best was probably either the first panel (why are books these days about twice the length they used to be?) or the panel on protecting your intellectual property rights in your will. The cautionary tale about John M. Ford was just heartbreaking.
- Found a nice little hotel near the con hotel, for about $40 less a night.
- Saw old friends (their daughter, whom I last saw in utero, is now in college and engaged!), went to a couple of parties, and saw many, many writers I'd read over the years.
- Bought only one book (non-fiction) but got many ideas for books to sample on the Nook and/or request from the library.
- Best of all, went to the Circlet Press reading, where I got to hear
gatewaygirl read a terrific piece of erotica, said hello to
ravenna_c_tan, and won a door prize because of my reaction to a terrific little piece of flashfiction. Go, me! :)
All in all, it was a very enjoyable time even if I missed most of the Kirk Poland contest. I'm definitely going next year, this time for the whole con.
