Ah, Chessie. My great-grandfather worked for the C&O railroad, and left behind a whole heap of stuff--old advertising cards, a model trail, even stuffed Chessies with their pillows attached. We've had to sell most of it, but my mom still has a Chessie plaque in her room, and for a while she used to chase our cat around with a Sharpie, threatening to give him a Chessie spot next to his nose.
Same here, especially when I'm in Western Pennsylvania. I always wondered about the odd looking logo until Mum dug up a picture of Chessie.
My little cat Diamond actually looks a bit like her...ultra-petite tabby, extremely sweet when asleep. I haven't yet tucked her into a bed, but when she's curled up for the night she's meltingly cute.
I still remember an old advertising picture from the 1940s...Peake, Chessie's husband, was in the service and "in uniform" (an Army cap), and Chessie's picture was his pin-up. SO cute!
Camped with the Boy Scouts along the C&O canal in MD when I lived there. Could see the kitten on some of the older historical items in the museum there.
My cat Arrow looked EXACTLY like Chessie when he was a kitten. He had the gentlest personality of any cat I've ever had, and would come when I called. I miss him terribly, even after almost two years....
