I just started to make breakfast and found a message by the sugar bowl: someone called just after midnight from Baystate Medical Center, the main hospital in Springfield, concerning me being the health proxy for my Ex.

I called them back to tell them that no, I should not be listed on his health proxy, and that if he's named me as such, I am respectfully declining the offer. I know it wasn't *my* health proxy because I've never been a patient at Baystate, plus Roomie is listed as my emergency contact with all my doctors.

The kicker: according to the person I spoke to, Ex isn't a patient at Baystate. What is going on?

they are training someone new.
The new person found something weird and asked and some idiot said "you call to check it out" instead of "between 9a and 8p, you call and ask".

Maybe he asked to transfer his records or something.

I hope you're right. I do not wish him ill, in spite of everything.

And the call may not have come from the hospital; it might have come from another time zone, or country. Picture some poor cublicle drone in Kolkata who has to check a list of 500 medical proxies (the question is whether X was *ever* a patient there, and therefore would have your name in a file to be reconfirmed/X'ed out by said drone).

Or it could be some weird scam. Perhaps X is selling his organs? ('Brain -- RLY CHEEP!')

There should be warning labels against this.

Though the temptation to do things when you have your ex's health care proxy is perhaps fodder for a good story! ;)

Do. Not. Tempt. Me.

Barely used even!

*and I don't even KNOW the guy*

Actually, he's pretty smart in terms of book learning, but he shows all the good and bad points of being an audodidact: he knows a tremendous amount, but there's no discipline and no training. I found out in graduate school (and especially at K'zoo) that his reliance on a handful of favorite scholars for his information would get him torn to shreds in academia.

Not that I'd ever tell him that. He wouldn't believe me for a minute.

What, he's a fundie?

When it comes to his choice of medievalists, yes. Fernand Braudel is his only source for demographics, and that solely so his game world (which he doesn't even play in anymore) would be realistic. He's also a huge fan of scholars whose work has been superseded by later, better research, and God help you if you try to suggest that maybe he'd profit by taking a place and hearing other opinions.

Well, Braudel, and Lopez, Raymond, Treadgold, Halsall, Saliba and numerous others, but my goal was to establish sound economics for gaming amongst friends ... that research being done nearly twenty years ago, yet, in pre-Web days. I leave doctoral dissertations on the current cutting edge of academia to those who feel they've something to prove.

That being said, to the matter at hand. My original HCP was voided years ago, I've been west of 495 just once in over a year, I don't recall *ever* having any services done at Baystate nor giving a copy of that HCP out (which, as I recall, was executed before we moved to Easthampton, and the notion of some screwup with old records is the best I can imagine. I smell hoax myself, and wonder what a caller ID might show. In any event I'll drop a line from the office tomorrow.

OH! You're back and more egotistical sorrier than ever!

Elf ears and Big Daddy not enough distraction for you that you need to haunt your ex's LJ AGAIN??

Good lord, dude, when other people troll/stalk/haunt, they tend to have the basic decency to not leave COMMENTS, okay?

Rule 1 when you end a no-child relationship in a healthy manner -> You don't interact with the ex once the divorce is final, the papers are signed, and the finances are straightened out. That means no queer phone calls at strange hours, or hang-ups on the answering machines. That means no sending cards, letters, gifts, money, newspaper clippings, dead animals, magazine subscriptions, or other effluvia, unless someone has died and you both cared about said person. That also means that you don't read their LJ, blog, MySpace, Friendster, follow their eBay or etsy sales, or otherwise nibble around the fringes of their reality.

Please go away and live your life somewhere else. The internet is not here to enable you to harass your ex-wife, it's here so that you can see porn.

See? Not difficult.

And that means no dozens of ranting posts on public fora, either, but that's the precipitating issue as to why we are no longer on speaking terms, which we had been even post-divorce. One would think that over seven years after I left the whinging would cease, but obviously I'm mistaken. I've ceased hoping for any particular measure of class in that regard.

That being said, that a couple friends keep an eye on this LJ for me is just as well, isn't it? I've learned of some deaths, I learned of Lisa's false claim that I gave her VD (over twelve years since we last slept together, yet), oh, quite a few other things. To quote one of those friends, "As long as you put your comments out there for the entire world to see, you lose the right to hop up and down about who sees it." I'm sure Lisa could take the LJ private if it suited her to do so.

(And as a digression, I'm completely bemused. This LJ, and many of its readers, focuses heavily on an activity where people play make-pretend, put on funny costumes, wave around make-pretend swords, and claim that they're "knights" and "nobles" and "lords" and "ladies" in a pretend Middle Ages with a 21st century patina. 90% of the general public would call you complete whackdoodles for your make-pretend games, which seldom approaches the intellectual rigor of CivWar or RevWar reenactors or the detailed personas of your average LARPer. The degree to which some of you sneer at others -- not that I have, in fact, done any LARPing in the last five years -- for the exact same dress-up make-pretend games you play yourselves is comical.)

Well, first, thank gawd you pulled out all those 50-cent words, because I totally think you're smrt now!

Second, admitting you're a stalker is the first step toward stopping. I'm proud of you, m'boy.

...iut's her journal, dude. She's allowed. But you feeling the need to comment on thie discussion is creepy, and making it seem a little too true.

Ignore it, and maybe she'd have no reason to talk to you.

Hello...pot? This is the kettle, yeah, how you doin'?

That being said, that a couple friends keep an eye on this LJ for me is just as well, isn't it?

No, that is even MORE creepy.

HEY! YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE SPIES! YOU ARE BEING CREEPY AND DISHONEST! PLEASE STOP TROLLING!

Trolls/spies/"friends who keep an eye out for me" are not really friends. Those are the people who stir up crap because it's entertaining for THEM, not because they actually care about YOU. If they cared about YOU, they wouldn't want to see you hurt, or have you getting involved in ancient history. Instead, they stand there and keep pushing buttons "OOOO did you see what X posted/hear what Y said about youuuuu?"

YOU ARE NOT DOING HIM ANY FAVORS, OKAY?

or the detailed personas of your average LARPer.

Heh. That's right and laudable, in some vague nebulous universe somewhere... because people who are so "detailed" about an alternate persona tend to be called "schizophrenic".

not that I have, in fact, done any LARPing in the last five years --

So that which you used to do you deride? Tres mature. Do you mock children for playing tag and hopscotch because you no longer do so? Do you sneer at graduate students for defending theses? (Yes, I believe you do, since they're only doing it to "prove something", rather than for the joy of learning and forwarding knowledge)

for the exact same dress-up make-pretend games you play yourselves is comical.)

Waaah I'm all hurt and... um... wait, no I'm not.

PLEASE go away. Tell your so-called friends to stop giving you a heads-up whenever something that might involve anything you care about (including your, and I use this loosely, good name) is mentioned here. Tell your so-called friends that they will be doing you a favor for no longer running to you with gossip.

Date: 2007-09-23 11:36 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ellid.livejournal.com
I swore I wouldn't get involved, but all this makes me wonder:

Why do you even care? You've made your choice. Why do you have your so-called friends spy on me?

And oh yeah - I asked you to leave me alone *long* before last summer. That you haven't says a lot more about you than about me.

Again, to quote your charming young wife's anonymous postcard from October 2005:

MOVE ON.

He chooses not to challenge himself, but instead rest on his, um, er, fundament (I will NOT say laurels). He was never the type to go out and do extra work for extra credit, even if he needed it.

Yep, cheap in more than just finances. And I *do* know the chump.

Date: 2007-09-10 08:52 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] ellid.livejournal.com
He's the laziest person I've ever known, and that is saying something.

The awful part is that he *is* intelligent, and had tremendous potential. He preferred to be a gamer and a LARPer to real life, though.

It's actually sad.

Maybe he was in the emergency room, but not admitted? Then he would not have been a patient when you called, but they may have pulled up an old record with your name on it...?

This sounds logical to me. When I called and asked what was going on, the person who answered the phone said "He isn't here any more." It sure sounds like he was there for some reason last night and was discharged....
