Friday night - stayed home and got ready for Crossroads. This meant packing, selecting dyes and mordants for a small demo, watching the weather report, and then watching a *stunning* Doctor Who episode, Blink.

Got up early on Saturday, got to site in the rain, dumped my stuff in Una's tent, and then proceeded to wander, eat, chat, demonstrate, and freeze. Seriously - the weather was gorgeous in the afternoon, but SO COLD! I wore my quilted tunic and was glad, because otherwise I would have gotten seriously ill.

Court was fun, and moving (one of the items was a marriage proposal!). Una and I skipped the feast and ate in our tent, then went wandering. She went to bed early, but I ended up chatting with Harald, [livejournal.com profile] hugh_mannity, and Master Christian until very late. I also got to listen to the poetry exhibition, which was splendid, and generally had fun.

Then it was time for bed...and OMG. I don't think I have EVER been so cold in my life. It got down into the 30's, and despite a double thick quilt, a Hudson Bay blanket, and my cloak over my head, I basically shivered all night. I *think* I got about two hours of sleep, and was able to drive home solely because Una gave me a Coke. No way I am ever camping after Labor Day again. Too cold at night, whether it's warm during the day or not.

Una and I rendezvoused at her place, where her mother, bless her, plied us with food and drink, and let us watch another Doctor Who episode, Tooth and Claw,, which has a werewolf that makes the skinned, hairless Chihuahua in the third Harry Potter movie look even dumber than it did on screen. The food revived me enough to drive home, and after a nap, I sort of staggered into the bathroom and finally got cleaned up.

Still tired, but reasonably content. Good weekend all in all.

*squee* Wasn't Blink just the perfect Doctor Who episode?!?!? I think it's my favorite of all time. It scared me as much the second and third time I watched it as it did the first.

"Don't look away. Don't close your eyes. And whatever you do, don't blink."

Great, great ending. I also love the explanation of time being "wibbly-wobbly" and "timey-wimey."

Blink was bloody brilliant. It had me looking over my shoulder for a day or two ... just in case. And yes, the werewolf in Tooth and Claw was so superior to the PoA one it just boggles the mind. If the Beeb can do it for a single episode on whatever their budget is, why the FROD couldn't WB do it on a movie budget???

Not only was the werewolf terrifically realized, I loved the scenes from its POV. Great episode.

As for Blink - I understand that it scared the bejesus out of a large segment of the British viewing public, just as it scared an awful lot of Americans. Fortunately I've always disliked those Victorian weeping angels anyway, but still -

"Don't even blink."
