I also received several very useful PDF documents from my rental agent, including instructions on using Italian payphones, a list of restaurants, groceries, and suchlike (including a take out place right down the street), and other merchants, including the oldest fabric store in Florence.
Dear God. Please don't let me buy fabric. Please don't let me buy fabric. Please don't let me buy fabric....

Siena
Grosseto e mare (little town on the Tuscan coast)

Venezia
Roma
And several others that I've forgotten. Of them all, I really enjoyed Venice and the Tuscan coast. Rome was cool, but I think I was spoiled by my mind's eye thinking it would look like it did 2000 years ago. ;) The Etruscan ruins were quite neat. The one place I wish I had gotten too was Firenze. Okay, two. I would have liked to go to Sicily.

Date: 2007-10-03 03:18 am (UTC)From:Actually, G. Lisio appears to be a high-end silk company that specializes in (get this) the recreation of medieval weaving techniques. They host terribly expensive, in-depth seminars on weaving 16th century style cut velvets, and I would give my eyeteeth to see their workshop.
ARGH.

Oh, and if you have an Italian friend, remember to go shopping only with her and let her handle all the payments, because Italian cafes and other places that don't have price tags on their merchandise tend to... ehr... rise the price a bit when they deal with foreigner customers.
Just saying :P

I have to say (please excuse the sap honestly) that it's definately making me want to get up and travel and do all of the things that I said would be great to do but never really believed that I would do.
