Doris Lessing won the Nobel Prize for literature.

In addition to the works cited above, Lessing wrote at least three science fiction novels during the 1970s and 1980s. What excellent news!

I remember reading her Si-fi in the late 70s and finding her ideas fascinating. In fact her books are among the few that I still have on my bookshelf after many, many moves and many purgings of books to the local library. This award is well deserved.

Her books are among the few that hit me right in the conscience. I defy anyone to read 'Shikasta' and not be more politically and environmentally aware afterwards. I'd love to hear that the Canopus in Argos books were becoming set books in secondary schools.
