More Star Trek Casting...

Let's see. So far the cast reportedly stands as follows:

Kirk: Chris Pine.

Spock: Zachary Quinto

Scotty: Simon Pegg

Uhura: Zoe Saldana

Chekov: Anton Yelchin

Sulu: John Cho

No word yet on Chapel or Rand, or if these characters will even be in the movie (my money's on Chapel, not Rand, because of Majel Barrett's importance to the Trek universe, but we shall see). Some of these seem good (Chris Pine has the right square jaw and steely look, and Zoe Saldana is gorgeous even if she's too tall), some make me scratch my head (John Cho of "Harold & Kumar" as Sulu? Simon Pegg of "Hot Fuzz" as SCOTTY? And where oh where is Welshie?), but none have flat-out made me wonder if JJ Abrams is smoking something.

Until now. Behold, the new, updated, relaunched Leonard McCoy....


McCoy: Karl Urban

That's right. Eomer, son of Eomund, later king of Rohan, will play an old country doctor from Georgia.

I have a funny feeling about this....

I'm trying not to expect too much from this. One, JJ Abrams can do it perfectly or horrible. Two, Spock. I love Spock, I've always loved him, much more than Kirk. Now I'm afriad that I'll see Quinto and think Sylar instead of Spock. I'm not a big fan of his. *sigh*

Exactly. I've been somewhat nervous ever since Abrams was announced as the producer, and this *really* bothers me. I understand that Gary Sinise, who is physically as close to DeForrest Kelley as we're going to get, is the star of a TV show, but was there no one in Hollywood with a genuine Southern accent?

*pets* I know what you mean, honey. I really do. The rest of the cast isn't a bad match for the originals (I especially like Saldana and Pine), but Karl Urban looks about as much like Bones McCoy as I do.

I'm actually so far behind Simon Pegg as Scottie that I'm walking in his footsteps, after all, WHO can't do a scottish accent, but this....THIS makes me sad!horrified!upset!outraged!confused!full-of-dread!

He's MUCH too pretty. His eyes are totally the wrong color. He's entirely too young. Can he even do the accent? It was kind of subtle. Did I mention he's WAAAAYYYYY too pretty.

I thought the movie was going to lode me over the casting of Kirk and I relaxed when I approved of his casting. I should never have relaxed.

With the threat of the Writer's Guild strike coming right dead in the middle of shooting I now live in fear of this movie.

The ethnicity of the actors doesn't bother me...I'm mainly afraid that I'll have flashbacks to the pot-smoking cheetah in Harold & Kumar every time John Cho opens his mouth....

Dude, unless the man is wearing mascara, a mohawk and armor, or is silently trying to shoot the crap out of an American operative, Karl Urban should go back to blowing up aliens.

Karl Urban = Vaako. Tolerable as Reaper in "Doom", and whatshistit in "Bourne". But otherwise? He looks like a hamster.

LOL Last I heard Karl was up for a villain role, never dreamed McCoy would be the role he'd get.

I've seen enough of Karl over the last 10+ years, I don't doubt he could pull it off, but it's definitely not the role I'd pick for him off the top of my head.

Not that I have any desire to watch it in the first place -- especially after seeing what they've casted as Chekov. *grumbles*
