Yum! I was just looking up odd Japanese ice cream flavours the other day: squid ink and eel were my favourites. They'd go lovely with that cola *g*

It's for all the Satmars in Kew Gardens who want to live dangerously.

There are frum-folk in Kew Gardens, but not Hasidim--those are mostly in B'klyn.

I work in the accounting dep't of a bottling company. One of our odder ethnic flavors is Kvas, which is an eastern european beverage which features the phrase "bread flavored" on the label. I am lead to believe ('cause I'm not trying that stuff!) that it tastes like liquid pumpernickle bread. But my suggested slogan, "Kvas, when you crave the refreshing taste of bread", got a laugh.

I have to ask the QC department what happened when they taste-tested the batch. I can just picture them all sipping and saying "I don't know, is it SUPPOSED to taste like that...?"

Naturally the boss occasionally brings in other ethnic sodas to see if they are worth looking into...I recall seeing a bottle of a bright green Hungarian beverage and the translation on the label said "Tarragon"! Scary thing is, these aren't jokes!

Mumble-years ago, Pavel gave us the recipe for Kvas, saying "you take a loaf of bread and soak it for a week. Take the bread out, throw it away, scrape the scum off the top, and drink what's left".

Er, okay...?

Their seasonal sodas are fun, if somewhat scary. They do a Mojito soda around Halloween that is just yummy.
