Clarification on yesterday's post....

There was another reason why I was so upset over the nasty client, beyond the distinct possibility of losing my job:

I had a second interview scheduled for a job at The National Religious Partnership for the Environment. I hadn't posted anything about this because I didn't want to jinx myself; the Partnership is a major, major player in environmental circles and is helping to draft the big climate change/poverty initiative legislation that's in the Senate right now, and the chance to work for a place where I could actually make a real difference in the world would be more than a dream come true. I've had so many interviews this fall seem to be good in person and result in nothing that I didn't want to get my hopes up by talking about it too much.

The executive director wanted to meet me in person after the director of finance had a phone interview with me on Wednesday, and the only time it could be scheduled was Friday at 5:30. The screaming client called at 4:30, and I was still rattled enough by the time I finally got to Amherst for the interview that I was off my game for at least part of the two-plus hours I spent talking with this gentleman. I had to beg off out of choir practice to go at all (more guilt beyond a client being angry enough to threaten me), and I probably blew it anyway because of my current awful job.

Needleworkers helped a lot because I was with friends, but I'm still feeling like I let down my current employer, my prospective employer, and my friends.

And that was why yesterday was lousy.

OK, you felt you were off your game, but you still don't know, you might have made a good impression anyway. You off your game is probably better than many people on their best day ever :)

anyway, *hugs*

Hey, maybe if the interviews you thought went well didn't, then the one you think didn't go well did? (That Aragorn/hobbit foul and fair thing...)

You could be right...they want me to set up a *third* interview, this one by phone on Tuesday night. The director also loaned me a book he co-wrote with, I kid you not, Ram Dass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Dass).

So...right now I'm not sure what to think. But I had a major attack of what golfers call "the yips" last night....

Wow... read the book! Definitely read the book.

Baba Ram Dass?! I haven't thought of him in years!

Definitely, that book needs to be read!

Evidently he had a stroke a few years ago and is in poor health, but he's still teaching and conducting satsang via the Internet. He now lives in Hawaii because of the mild climate.

I plan to read it tomorrow afternoon and send some "stairway questions" to the director (aka, the questions one always thinks of on the stairway as one leaves). The interview was very tough and very probing about my motives, my spirituality, and my goals, and between that and the bad experience at work, I was in a very strange mental place for a while...

Like I said, friends helped. Needleworkers was A Good Thing.

A *third* interview?!? That can't be bad! Good luck! *crossing fingers for you*

Just hugs! We both know I get what you're dealing with right here. I think they loved your 1st, so just bring your best game to the phone interview. :-D

I'll keep my fingers cro9ssed for you. :-D

[identity profile] ellid.livejournal.com 2007-11-18 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :D

Aw, honey! I'm sorry you had such a sucky time at work, but keeping fingers crossed for the new place and the third interview.

That they want to talk with you a third time sounds to me like they're really interested.

What a hairy / harried day! I'm glad there's another interview scheduled. Sounds to me like your Very Bad, No-Good Day was *not* the end of the world with this awesome job possibility.

Having normal reactions to normal days - which includes ones, alas, with screaming horrid clients - isn't "letting anyone down". It's being normal. Normal is good! (A lot of us prefer working with normal people to, say, people who are so dedicated to appearance as to always be "on.")

Best wishes for a relaxing and inspiring run-up to Tuesday!

Hey, at least they want to talk to you again! This time has got to be better.

I hope things have settled out. It's horrid when you have to deal with a client who's being upsetting and then have to go do something else. I really hope you find something better, so you can leave your crappy job.

**hugs**

if they want to talk to you again you must have shown them something they value.

When you speak to them again, you will be in a better brain space. If they ask, it is okay to tell them Friday was a difficult day at work (if they press as to why, tell them only that there was a very difficult client). I think I would be impressed at someone who can hold their shit together on a 2 hr phone call after such a craptastic day.

good luck. smooches

You have a good solid core. Perhaps this was apparent even though you were rattled. The token of the book is a very positive sign as is the 3rd interview. Breathe slow and deep, and get a little fresh air to you core.

I second Baroness Martha -- being yelled at, especially for something that is NOT your fault, can throw anyone off for a bit, and if you get a chance to slip in a comment that Friday was a bad day (without making a big ostentatious deal out of it) then DO. Show them you've handled it and bounced right back.

Someday you'll be out fo there, and then all will be better. I hope it's soon.
