I wish I had a chunk of money-and-time to send you, honey, so you could get there on this trip...*sigh* Eurail looks to cost about $400 for a pass that would get you from Italy through Solvenia to Hungary and back again, but it's 13 hours one way and would eat up a block of time you probably don't have available. :-(
