ellid: (Woe)
I found out this morning that I need to have a root canal ASAP. It will take place tomorrow night at 5:30, and the only reason it didn't happen this morning was because the ultrasonic sterilizer at my dentist's office overheated and set off the smoke alarm, and since my dentist owns the building he had to deal with it all himself.

Also, I'm about 90% certain, based on the numbness, tingling, and waking three straight mornings with my hands feeling like they're on fire, that I have carpal tunnel syndrome.

Just what I always #!!$@!$! wanted.

Crap. *comfort*

And the root canal I had scheduled as part of the crown over here? Pfft. Canceled.

Insurance won't cover it (yet) and it'd be $700 and change out of pocket.
No thanx.

If you can get yours fixed.... do it... get it over with....
*hugs*

Ugh - sorry about both of those... I have carpal tunnel that is under control - I tried home remedies, then ended up getting a shot in each wrist a couple years ago, which has worked wonderfully. I wear wrist braces every night and have very few problems at this point - just the random twinge or if I twist my wrist the wrong way. Oh, I did get a ergonomic keyboard for my work computer too.

Anyway - recommend buying wrist braces for night wear and icing your wrists, then going to a doctor if it doesn't get better.

I keep my carpel tunnel under pretty good control by wearing my wrist braces every night. When I was first diagnosed with it (in both hands-- ugh) I wore the braces 24/7 for six months and then weaned it to just at night. Doc said I saved myself the hassle of surgery by wearing the braces for those six months and by wearing them at night now. And if I forget one night, I know it the next morning!

Hope your root canal goes well. *healing thoughts*

I began to get the same symptoms in my hands a few years back, when I was at a job that required muchly straight keyboarding for long periods of time.

I bought a pair of "smart gloves"...that's the brand name. You can get them at Staples nowadays, I got my first pair through officeorganix.com. They are pretty light and flexible, and comfortable except in very hot weather (for me at least). They support your wrists two ways and helped me out immediately. Made a world of difference and I never had to go to the doctor.

Re: carpal tunnel- *go see your doctor*. With any luck, your insurance will cover most of the cost of the wrist braces.

Also, have the doctor write a letter documenting your condition for work. Thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act, your employer has to make reasonable accomodation, which means providing a wrist support pad in front of your keyboard at work. If you don't already have a decent adjustable chair, you can make a pretty good argument for that as well.

Meawhile, (hug).
