This is so cool!

One of the Italian language professors at UMass has asked me to give a talk on my trip and my patchwork research on the evening of the 25th. She knows Roomie and was fascinated when Roomie told her about my trip, and we're getting together on Wednesday night to go over the logistics.

Even better, she's agreed to translate a section of a gorgeous Italian book on Renaissance architecture that talks about textiles complementing architectural elements. The passage I need discusses the Impruneta cushion in specific and cushions in general, so it's exactly what I need. Whee!



And in other news...I picked up a small photography album for my vacation pictures and postcards, paper to print my pictures onto something besides crappy notebook paper, and a fascinating book about the race between Salk and Sabin to develop a polio vaccine. I was born a few years after the Salk vaccine was introduced, and since Dr. Salk did his research at the University of Pittsburgh, he was very much a household name when I was young.
