The judge issued his ruling on April 24th approving the estate and the immediate distribution. There's a statutory 21 day waiting period for one of the creditors or heirs to challenge the ruling, which is almost certainly not going to happen. 21 days from April 24 is May 15th.
That's when the lawyer will make up the distribution checks for me to sign and return to him. Each heir will then receive his or her check and a receipt to return to the lawyer for recording. Estate account stays open with $1,000 for another few months in case there are any last taxes or fees due, at which time that money is distributed.
But for all intents and purposes, the estate should be settled by Memorial Day or immediately thereafter, thank God and the angels....
Well thank HEAVENS. (Also, hooray for no major knee damage, and the premature arthritic me suggests trying glucosamine/chondroitin combo - it's helped me a lot.)
It also means I will have the funds for another research trip abroad. I'm leaning toward going back to Italy and seeing Siena, Lucca, and some of the other northern cities, plus a side trip to Budapest to see the Hungarian throne drapery. I also desperately want to see Cesky Krumlov and go back to Vienna.... (http://hartcottagequilts.com/his1.htm)
