A giant of fandom has died

Pioneer Star Trek fan Joan Winston died in her sleep.

I know that a lot of people don't remember her, or the tremendous impact those first few Star Trek conventions had, but if you've ever been to a media convention, a comics con, or a convention dedicated to a single book/TV show/movie, it's because of the likes of Joan Winston, the late Shirley Maiewski, and their ilk who showed that a cancelled TV show still mattered.

Rest in peace, Joanie.

Awwwww! Like a lot of folks, I remember her from Trek cons years ago. Yep, she will be missed!

I never met her, but if she and others hadn't 'created' Star Trek fandom, it's quite possible I wouldn't be here now. 'Here' as in 'LJ', and possibly even 'here' as in 'alive'.
