My generation fought hard to gain access to abortions and to establish clinics for those who needed easily accessible facilities. It was an uphill battle against those who would barely let us even speak about abortion let alone see any need for such facilities. Patriarchy at it's best! It is a battle we should not have had to fight. Freedom of choice should always have been available.
The thing is - if we shut off opportunities for the religious right/ left or center to voice their opinion then we have become the new patriacrhs- our way or the high way! Can't do it! even if we lose the battle in the end, for all of the struggle to mean anything we also must also fight for their right to speak/ hold opposing opinions as well as our right to speak and hold opposing opinions.
Upshot of this is that, while I may grind my teeth, ultimately I think Google is doing the right thing.. for all of us
I don't see this as a free speech issue - Google are perfectly entitled to pick and choose among advertisers and I think that they are being cowardly again and caving in to political pressure, as they did over Chinese censorship.
Um, what, exactly, do you want to complain about? Is it that now if one googles Abortion, one can find not only providers but differing opinions? Because that seems to me a good idea... maybe someone is considering an abortion only because she doesn't know what else to do?
First, I'm not at all crazy about an issue like this being advertised, regardless of one's position on the subject. It's far too painful and personal to be reduced to an ad and a soundbite. I'm also concerned about inaccurate information, a great deal of which is circulating (most, but not all, from one side, I'm afraid).
Personally, I still think Pitcairn Island makes the best statement. When you'd rather live on a rock in the Pacific with 48 people and no airstrip, you really want out.

but as I did not get any adress changes I think people managed to live with it.

a)the Bounty
and
b)a very high crime rate.
so there must be better rocks out there in the ocean.
