The mayor of Fort Mill, South Carolina, circulated an e-mail asking if Barack Obama was the Anti-Christ.

Y'know, it's perfectly possible to disagree with Obama, or dislike him, or not vote for him. Not everyone has the same political beliefs or opinions. But actually wondering if he's the Anti-Christ is going just a bit beyond the pale.

*******

And in equal opportunity stupidity, someone at Harvard has put up a poorly doctored poster of Sarah Palin with Miss Piggy's head at the Miss Alaska contest. I don't like Palin's positions, politics, or religiosity, but again, comparing her to Miss Piggy is a bit much. Can't we at least be civilized here?

There's also a great rumor going around that Biden's going to drop out after the debate due to "health reasons" and Hillary's going to take his place. A alarmist email that only Rush Limbaugh can love.

Sounds like the "Palin will drop out of the race after the debate to look after her family so Romney will step in" rumor. Will this insanity never end?

I mean really, that's insulting Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy is all about how absolutely BEEEEutiFUL she is (don't you agree??) and Sarah Palin is, well, I'm not exactly sure.

And civilization went out the door about 3 months ago I think.

That's what I was thinking. It's an insult to Miss Piggy.... *does Miss P. hair-fling thing*

*pets soothingly, offers tea*

The fandom will deal with it. I'm sure somebody out there is writing Antichrist/Miss Piggy smut already.

Palin gives us enough actual reasons (prayers against witchcraft, attempted book banning, firing people she doesn't like) to disagree with her, that no one needs to sink to sexism. It's possible to dislike her opinions because they're whacked, not because she's a woman, like was done with Hillary.

I hate when this inevitable part of the campaigning happens. It just pisses off people on both sides and makes them vote defensively/reflexively instead of weighing the issues.

And as for the Anti-Christ statement, I'm disgusted but not surprised. I live in the South, Georgia specifically, and that kind of slander is sadly common from the Republican supporters around here. =/

Actually, some time ago a prominent right-wing religious nut debunked this one. Tim LaHaye said in August that Obama can't be the antichrist because he's from America. (http://johnmeunier.wordpress.com/2008/08/09/tim-lahaye-obama-not-the-anti-christ/)

We've been in silly season for a long while.
