The origin of the "Obama is a Muslim Terrorist" smears

I vaguely remember the news report about this guy and frivolous lawsuits a few years back...never would have pegged him for this sort of thing, but one never knows.

What a strange guy, though I suppose it's in a way reassuring that it originated with someone who's obviously living in his own delusional world rather than being a coldly calculated tactic - though unfortunately that doesn't change the way some elements of the Republican support have been playing on it, even though they must know it's based on a lie.

Yeah, that popped up in my mailbox this morning and I posted it. There are actually a couple of people on my list who were wavering for that very reason.

This Mr. Martin certainly is a man I would buy a secondhand car blindly from.

Thanks for linking this - most interesting.

The thing I find almost more distasteful than the 'Obama is a Muslim' and 'Obama is an Arab' campaigns - with of course their respective rebuttals - is the fact that noone in the public arena seems to be calling people on the implicit assumption that there would be something wrong with Obama if he *were* to be a Muslim or an Arab. The 'sane' people seem almost as guilty of this omission as the crazies...

Yes, that is something that bugs me to.

For instance, when that woman said to McCain about Obama 'he is an Arab' the good answer, in my opinion wouldn't be to deny it, but to say something along the line of 'so what?' then deny it.

Using Obama's second name 'Hussein' in a derogative way... it gives me the creeps, it reminds me of our (french) fascist and far right wing leader, using the full name of our ex-prime minister(who had shortened it to sound more french) to highlight its turkish roots. Distateful, indeed.
