Where are the spots? It is a lovely piece of patchwork. How did she do? What materials did she use?

It's only the top and is unfinished, so no spots as yet. Would you believe that that was the maker's first attempt at patchwork?

Material was all silk, mostly dupioni but some that look more like a taffeta or shantung.

I remember when those "relics" were created -- I was, in fact, there and watching the day that Duke Flieg was called into West Kingdom Court and asked whether he had completed the Quest he had been sent on by our beloved King Alden I. He had, and presented the container full of earth for the making of the reliquaries. I'd been in the SCA less than a year. I thought at the time that His Majesty's inspiration was utterly, completely *brilliant.* The smug expression on his face was the best part ;)

The freon tank helm cracked me up, but I must say that I took a moment to gaze at the Sacred Dirt and contemplate what came of Diana Paxson's request for a medieval-themed May Day party.
