Fred Phelps plans to picket in Manchester, Boston, and Cambridge on December 12, starting at 2:15 in Manchester and ending up in front of either the Swedish or British consulate in Boston around 5:00. Isn't it nice that he's going to be disrupting everyone's Christmas cheer?

Bah. Last two times he's said he was going to show up, he never showed. That's been the MO lately. He says he'll be ther,e people get all worked up, and they never show up, but still get the publicity from the working up without actually moving his ass from the couch.

To show you how far out of the mainstream I am, I thought for a moment that you meant one of the Phelps twins who play the Weasley twins. So - who the heck is Fred Phelps, and what is he picketing about?

He is a seriously mentally disturbed man who, over many years, warped his family into such deep homophobia that they now picket funerals of US service personnel on the grounds that they a) fought for the United States, which b) "tolerates gays" when c) "God hates fags".

Old Mr. Phelps doesn't get out much any more, but his hatred has warped generations of his family, who also make up their own splinter church.
