News and notes

- Company holiday party was relaxing and fun, with good food. I now have a $25 gift card to the local art house cinema, so if the snow doesn't bury us all, Mistress C and I will be going to see Milk sometime this weekend.

- Speaking of the storm, I cancelled Needleworkers tomorrow night. We're supposed to get slammed just in time for the afternoon rush hour, so asking people to come for a visit is pretty pointless.

- Yes, Obama is trying to reach out to evangelists by asking Rick Warren to speak at the inauguration. At the same time, I'm disappointed that he chose one who deliberately worked to remove his fellow citizens' rights. Was Jim Wallis not available?

- Yearly women's physical generally went well.

- Bought a new, bright red bathrobe. It's warm, snuggly, and will likely get quite a bit of wear this winter.

- Christmas cards will go out tomorrow night.

- Malfoy is now curled up in a fetal position on said bathrobe. Guess that means it has the Malfoy Seal of Evil Approval.

- Tired Ellid is tired.

- The Duggars had ANOTHER kid.

*snore*

Yes, Jim Wallis was my first thought. Hell, I'd prefer Huckabee over Rick Warren. I'm stumped.

But they do also have Rev. Joseph Lowery. He's as controversial a choice in being a strong progressive voice. He's the guy who criticized Bush, to his face, while speaking at Coretta Scott King's funeral.
Warren is dreadful when it comes to gay rights and women's rights (he believes in the submitting to your husband crap), but he has championed causes like condoms to slow the spread of AIDS in Africa and getting some evangelical churches to organize against global warming. He's a bigot, but he's also someone who could be useful to get progress made on policy. Plus, the fuss over him has had people ignoring Lowery's part in the coming Inaugeration.

I think this is typical of Obama's pragmatism. He isn't seeing Warren as a symbolic slap to his supporters (although he should maybe think more about symbolism), but rather someone who could be useful in getting a fairly large chunk of the public to open their minds to progressive policies.

Snuggle in and be cozy. Cat scritches. I'm looking forward to a new cat after Christmas ;)

You forgot to announce the cancellation on the BOB list. I wasn't going to attempt your mountain road anyway. Stay warm and safe.

They probably closed the road tonight anyway. It was fun driving home at 10pm.
