I just read a document in my design class at UNL and damned if the piece didn't quote ME on medieval quilts.

I'm not sure whether to be pleased or horrified.

That's fabulous! Congratulations!

I'm still in shock. Especially since it quotes an article I wrote a long time ago that reflects what I knew then, not what I know now, and that I really, really need to revise one of these days.

Worst of all, I'm not 100% the teacher is aware that his student is the person he's quoting in a footnote.

*reels*

You might smile gently and point out that you've revised your research a smidge since then ;)

(How totally COOL!)

Well, *I'd* think that was pretty nifty. If I were you. But that's just me. :)

It actually is - I'm just still shaking my head. Somehow I never really thought that something I wrote ten years ago would come up in a design class, of all things. :D

hee. That'll be a fun class. :D

Date: 2009-01-27 03:01 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ellid.livejournal.com
Well, I just 'fessed up and e-mailed the professor (who almost certainly is well aware of my identity). We'll see...

freaking cool as hell.
Revise and then hand him the new one.

If nothing else it'll force me to revise my basic quilting class, which has needed updating for quite some time.

Well if there was any doubt that you're doing the right thing....
Seriously though, it sounds fantastic.

I'd feel somewhat less *bzuh?* if one of my quotes wasn't from a part of my old article that I've since revised and come to realize may have been a misinterpretation on my part...*tries not to squirm*

So.

If you write a paper for this class, and quote that passage from the class document, do you have to credit yourself?

(I was an English Major, we think about these things...)

Re: So.

Um, probably?

(so was I, and I'm trying not to since I don't want my head to explode)

I was wondering the same thing. :) Actually, I know the answer because I co-wrote something with someone where we had to do that very thing. You do in fact credit yourself.

That's pretty awesome though! Are you glad that you are doing this class as a distance learning class and you didn't have to discover this while you were sitting in the classroom with the professor sitting in front of you?

WICKED! That is SO cool. I do hope that they got the quote correct ~

Date: 2009-01-27 03:29 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] ellid.livejournal.com
It's an old Whole Earth News on quilts that quotes something I wrote almost a dozen years ago. Of course I didn't know nearly as much then as I do now, and it shows, but with the exception of one misinterpretation on my part, the quotes are fine.

I'm still really stunned. It's sort of like one of those creepy old movies where the good guys are walking down a hallway and run into themselves at the opposite end....

If you are your definition of ordinary, I shudder at the notion of who you would consider extraordinary...

Oh Squee! That's fantastic. You don't know how much I wish I could get you and my mother in the same room to talk quilts and history. I'd have to set up a video camera and send copies to all the family.
