In other news, had my yearly MRI for the acoustic neuroma. As usual, I came very close to falling asleep in the tube, and as usual, it took me a few minutes to feel alert enough to drive home afterwards. I had a new radiology tech who said I was unusually calm and quiet in the tube, and praised me for it. I guess a lot of her patients thrash and freak out, especially the elderly ones, so I was a pleasant change.

If there's anything to worry about, Dr. McKenna's office will contact me, but otherwise that's it until late this year or early next year....

MRI's do that to me, too. It's sort of zen being in there, with the giant magnets going brrrrtt brrrt brrrrt around you... :)

I nearly giggled when one of them sounded *exactly* like the old video game Qubert. There's another series, the last ones before they haul me out long enough for the gadolinium injection, that remind me strongly of the dirty bomb in Goldfinger. But most of them are noisy but oddly soothing, plus there's always the *whompwhompwhomp* of the coolant around the magnets in the background.

You're right. It's almost Zen, in a peculiarly technological way.

When we were in England, there were a couple of days when all the car washes were closed because it was below freezing, and they couldn't run the machines. I boggled - I'm from California, dude, and I can't comprehend freezing.

When I had the pelvic MRI, I got the twitchies for a bit...just this irrational urge to move around. But I think I feel asleep during the head series.

I don't mind being in the tube, except my tinnitus gets so loud I can't hear the thing-- or the tech's instructions!! Last one I had was in 1979 due to a very bad collision with a windshield (and I WAS wearing a seat belt!) and that's all I remember-- the damn tinnitus noise!! I'm still trying to come up with the funds to get a new MRI to see if I do indeed have an acoustic neuroma or not.
