Yes, very likely. However, we are anywhere from 2-10 years out IMO. I agree that the negotiations are awful. However, the Hartford Courant recently axed a huge number of staff to little outcry, and the paper is still coming out. So I suspect that it will be a while.

The parent company, the New York Times, gave Globe management 30 days to make the cuts. Period. That means one month, not several years.

I hope you're right, but I have this awful feeling you're not...:(

Even with the cuts, I'm guessing the Globe won't last longer than a few years, if that long. And, frankly, having watched the Globe deteriorate from respectable to yellowish to dubious ever since the Times bought it, I can't feel too sorry; about the only things I'll miss at this point are the crossword and the sudoku (spelling?). I think newspapers at this point are fighting the tide of history/technology. I worked with young people (undergrads and graduate students) at an academic library until recently, and newspapers are just irrelevant to them.
