I have just returned from seeing Star Trek with Una. We nearly bought tickets for the next show.

Yes.

It's that good.

No joke! I've had to see it twice myself, I hardly ever do that.

Una and I are hoping to see it again this coming weekend.

Just saw it myself. Even though they messed with cannon, they did it in such a way I can deal and not run off in a rage. Special effects were great. Acting was spectacular. They knew their roles and their characters.

It was clear that the movie was made with a great deal of love for Trek and for its universe. I was really nervous about whether this would be an exploitative mess like the first three Star Wars movies or whether it would be a Casino Royale style relaunch, and I can't tell you how happy I was when it turned out to be the former.

I can't decide whether I liked Chekov or Sulu better - they're both fabulous. I also LOVED Simon Pegg as Scotty, and Deep Roy as his little friend who looked like a tree stump.

As for the triumvirate...my SOLE complaint was that Karl Urban's accent wasn't Southern enough. Other than that, loved 'em. And wasn't it nice to see a Kirk who wasn't visibly wearing a corset? ;)

Now, for the next movie, we need Yeoman Rand and Dr. Chapel to show up, especially if they can ditch that goopy "Oh Spock I LOVE you!!!!" thing with Chapel. If nothing else, I very much would like to avoid a male-pleasing but ridiculous catfight between Uhura and Chapel over who gets the Vulcan....
