I don't like countertenors, as a rule, but on the whole I prefer the French sound, like Dominique Visse or Gerard Lesne. Chanticleer's Randy Wong is also good, but I'm not sure whether he's a countertenor or sopranist :-)
BTW, have you ever heard of German tenor named Fritz Wunderlich? He was a Mozart and Schubert specialist who died in an accident back in the 1960s. Magnificent voice.
We should all have such dilemmas! I love listening to a countertenor. There was one in the Chamber Choir when I was at UMass as an undergrad. His voice was just amazing.
