Author, filmmaker, and victims' rights advocate Dominick Dunne has died of cancer.
Dunne is perhaps best known for his beautifully written, gossipy crime writing and accounts of scandal among the rich and famous. However, he was a passionate advocate for the rights of crime victims and their families after his daughter, Dominique, was murdered by a former boyfriend. Dominique's ordeal and death were almost lost in a wave of sympathy for her murderer that resulted in him getting a much-reduced sentence. Her father never forgot, and never ceased to work for others who were damaged by violence and crime.
