Nestle. I didn't touch their chocolate for years.

Domino's. Tom Monaghan's political opinions are utterly repugnant to me.

The Boy Scouts. I refuse to do demos for Boy Scouts or participate in activities with Boy Scout troops because of their stands on gay rights and atheist/agnostic Scouts.

I still refuse to eat at Wendy's because they pulled their ads for the episode of "Ellen" when she confessed to being a lesbian.

I sometimes eat there, but not very often. The food isn't all that good except for a couple of the salads.

I boycotted Exxon for over a decade after the Valdez. And I am not donating any other cars to Salvation Army because of their stance on gays.

I donated my old car to the Cancer Society in Betty's name. I also try to avoid Exxon/Mobil because of the windfall gas profits a few years ago.

And oh yeah - any and every advertiser that supports those appalling excuses for human beings named Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reilly.

Nestle - I occasionally forget and pick up a Crunch bar or the like. But mostly I try to avoid them as well.

Domino's - Oh, I didn't know about them. Hmm... I wonder what my delivery alternatives are. (And I wonder if I'll have the strength of my convictions next time I'm craving a Philly Cheesesteak pizza.)

Boy Scouts - Never gave them much thought, but mostly through lack of interaction opportunities.

...
Cracker Barrell - I used to love them, as they do have good food and speedy service. Plus, the general store section was always a good source for fun and nostalgic stocking stuffers. But then I learned that they got an awful rating from HRC, so I stopped going there.

Cracker Barrel's stance on gays has them on my shit list, permanently. I'm also bemused by the idea that a store that trades on old-timey Americana sells merchandise that is almost entirely made in China....

I don't eat Nestle (except for semisweet chocolate chips) because their other chocolate is crap.

I won't eat Domino's, either.

I actually support the Scouts. They are a private organization which has established a set of criteria from which they refuse to be bullied. Since nobody is forced to join the Scouts or to follow their criteria outside of Scouting, I believe they are free to follow their corporate guidelines.

I think we're going to have to disagree on the Scouts. My church has frequently clashed with them over this, and I agree with them.

I'm grateful for anyone who will engage in thoughtful discussion without condemnation! I find I don't feel at all safe dissenting in Amherst... so generally I keep my opinions to myself. I respect your right to your position, and it feels like you will offer the same courtesy. Regrettably, many folks (here and elsewhere, on both sides of any discussion) will not.
