Yes, Buchanan is a paranoid old racist, but this little bit of revisionism verges on lunacy. I wonder if I should send him a copy of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich?

That's unbelievable. Mind you, if he thinks Churchill was against the war, he'll believe anything.

You could just send him a copy of "The Danegeld"*, but I don't suppose he'd get it, even if it is from a children's book. But then, it's a children's book for those evil warmongering British children, stamping their jackbooted heels down on the innocent peaceloving Nazis... wait, what?

Oddly enough, the 'Germany can't afford war' theory was popular at the time - except they hadn't considered that the Nazis were relying on being able to fund their campaigns by conquest. Which went pretty well, till they got bogged down in Russia.

* Dane-Geld
A.D. 980-1016

It is always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say: --
"We invaded you last night--we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: --
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: --

"We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that pays it is lost!"

Better send him a copy of "Mein Kampf" so he can make proper quotes instead of useing hearsays..... what a dipshit!

But on the other hand he is more or less echoning the ideas of Lindbergh and the Isolationists of the late '30-ties and early '40-ties, ignoring the fact that Hitler's complete power lay in the large resentment Germany had about the Versailles contracts, "Ausradieren dieser Schande" was the core of his policy and it would lead to war as sure as water runs to the sea.
Even Chamberlain realised that when he paid "DaneGeld" at Munchen.
In 1939 Germany was less prepaired for war then Hitler cum sui wished to believe, but that never has stopped dictators to go to self-destructing wars.

Maybe "History for Dummies"is a better gift for mr Buchanan, not that he will read it.

So... the right-wing position now is that the real Hitler wasn't such a bad guy but Obama-with-Hitler-mustache is the worst evil imaginable?

Alrighty then.

Well, he's totally shot any credibility he might have had left. Hitler, the peace loving teddy bear. I think I may be ill.

Oooookay then! Can we say "batshit crazy"?

I really hope stuff like this gets widely publicized so that the populace will see just what sort of lunacy is at the heart of the Republican party.
