Pat Robertson, host of the 700 Club, states that the earthquake in Haiti can be traced to a pact with the devil made by the Haitian people 200 years ago.

Leaving aside entirely that the story is bogus, I cannot believe that a true Christian could have forgotten these words:

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

Sickening. *Sickening*

I am donating to relief for Haiti. I don't have much, but I will do what I can.

The comments section of my local newspaper is just as bad. It's truly heartbreaking.

And yes, I am sending what I can, as well. The BBC reports are a lot franker than the ones we're getting on NPR, it's so much worse than I initially thought.

For crying out loud! It's "Suffer the little children to come unto me", not "suffer the little children to having their skulls crushed by falling buildings".

Not to mention Christ's comments re the people the tower fell on... Massive fail on just about every level.

Does he not realize that 80% of Haiti is Roman Catholic, with another 16% classified as Protestant? Haiti is more of a "Christian" nation than America, by those numbers.

As far as fundies like Robertson are concerned, Catholics (and Anglicans) are heathen idolators, not Christians >:-/

I cannot understand why people with major personality disorders are taken seriously when commenting on natural disasters.
In my job we give them Seprexa.

There are times I wish I believed in an afterlife so that lowlives like Robertson could burn in hell for all eternity like they deserve.

Well put. And sad.

My conversation with my spouse last night ran something like this -

Him: Have you heard what Pat R said about Haiti -

Me: No, who gives a **** about what he thinks anyway. I don't understand why these haters even get airtime.

Him: He said that Haitians are being punished by God for their evil.

Me: What?!? - these people are the meek that are supposed to inherit the earth. (sarcastic voice) Yeah, I guess God and Jesus really hate the poor too. Pffft.

Him: He couldn't be more wrong.

Me: Won't he be surprised when he's at the pearly gates? I can see him turning to some flunky and yelling at him - there are poor people in there!!! Why didn't you tell me - what am I paying you for? I can't go in there...

See, I found his commentary hysterically amusing. Clearly, he's just a maniac with no internal edit control. What a dick.

As for aid, yes, I'm all for helping in whatever way we can.

*hugs you*

He's a piece of work, all right. He's a Christian only so far as it will go to fatten his own coffers. I will be so glad when he joins Jerry Falwell to his "just reward".

He's scum, but I read that his organization is helping the relief efforts. He's insane to accuse them of a pact with Satan, but he actually does seem to remember his duty to the needy.

Pat Robertson is an Ass. Plain and simple.

As [livejournal.com profile] minstrlmummr points out here, Jon Stewart nailed it nicely.
