Movie time!

Saw Sherlock Holmes today. Weirdly enough, I liked it - not at all traditional, but a very interesting take on the characters, with enough references to canon that it's defensible. Jude Law was a very good Watson, Robert Downey Jr. was an interesting Holmes, and the guy who played Lestrade was perfect. The only actor I didn't like was Rachel McAdams, who came across as too young and too 21st century for the part. I did not believe for one minute that she was either an international criminal or a 19th century woman, and I *really* did not like her voice.

In every other way this was a pleasant surprise, and worth seeing a second time. If nothing else, I'd love to steal some ideas for steampunk clothes from this movie.

And in the "this could be fabulous or Cosmic Horror" department...they're remaking Death at a Funeral, a wonky little British comedy about a wake that goes disastrously wrong. Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, Luke Wilson, and Zoe Saldana are in, plus Peter Dinklage, who seems to be playing the same part that he played in the original. The British version was hilarious in a very sick way, so we shall see. :)

As for the figure skating tonight....

Sasha Cohen is going to go down as one of the biggest examples of unfulfilled potential in skating history.

I adored the original Death at a Funeral, so I'm not sure how to approach the remake. I can't currently imagine anything beating Alan Tudyk playing high.
